For any dental implant to be successful it is essential to have a sound bone structure. Sometimes when teeth are removed from the back region of the upper jaw, there is not enough bone volume for implant placement. A surgical procedure called Sinus Lift Surgery is performed to create more room for implant placement.
The surgeon makes a small incision in the gums and bone to create a “bony window (sort of like a cut out) and bone graft material is packed into this space and secured together by a “membrane’ to lift the floor of the sinus cavity upwards. The incision is then closed with stitches and healing of the bone is allowed to take place for a few months.
