VENEERING - COMPOSITE/PORCELAIN

Veneer Gingivectomy

A veneer is a thin shell of a tooth-coloured material that is pasted on the front surfaces of the teeth.

If you are unsatisfied with the colour or shape of your teeth or bothered by the gaps in your teeth, veneers can instantly improve your smile. They are also ideal for stained teeth that cannot be corrected by tooth whitening.

What are the types available
  • Composite Veneers - "Componeers"
  • This involves using a tooth-coloured filling material which is adhered in the form of a coating on the surface of the teeth.

  • Before we place Veneers a lot of factors are to be considered- such as your gum health, bite pattern, tooth alignment and finally patient expectation. Any artificial cosmetic treatment always demands special post treatment care- by which we mean excellent oral hygiene and regular dental checkups.

Pros
  • Procedure can be completed in one or two visits
  • Economical
  • Can be easily repaired
  • Less tooth enamel has to be reduced compared to porcelain veneers
Cons
  • Not as wear resistant compared to porcelain
  • Can stain over time if proper hygiene is not followed
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • These are Veneers that are made of ceramic or porcelain. They are usually custom made by the dental lab and require 2 visits.

Pros
  • Very natural looking
  • More resistant to staining
  • Less tooth structure grinding compared to caps
Cons
  • Not very economical

Technique

The dentist first prepares the teeth by removing a small amount of the tooth enamel to make space for receiving the veneers. Then a mould or impression of the teeth is made and sent to the dental lab for custom veneer fabrication. Meanwhile you may be given temporary veneers.

The next visit involves a trial fit of your veneers, minor adjustments, and cementation.

  • No Prep Veneers or Lumineers
  • A new twist to the conventional old veneers is the Lumineers System As the name suggests, this type of veneer is least invasive with almost no alteration to the existing tooth structure in terms of grinding or shaping.

Indications
  • Teeth which appear too small
  • Worn teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Deeply stained teeth
  • Teeth with chipping, cracks
Advantages
  • Lumineers are super thin about-0.3 mm to be precise- very comfortable without the heavy feel.
  • Reversible- No tooth structure is removed hence it can be removed at a later date
  • As they are thin- they are more translucent and give a natural appearance to the teeth
  • Extremely durable

As with any dental care procedure, our experts would first like to analyse your smile and teeth bite pattern before we recommend the best veneer option for you.
